On 30 November 2024, the Ankara court ordered the arrest of Nimet Tanrıkulu, a long-standing woman human rights defender and feminist, after four days in detention. She is now held in Sincan Women’s Prison, alongside 13 others detained during an operation targeting politicians, trade unionists, and human rights defenders.
Nimet Tanrıkulu has devoted her life to promoting peace and defending human rights, paying a heavy price for her commitment. A survivor of torture during the 1980 military coup in Turkey, she continued her fight for freedom by founding organizations such as the Women for Peace Initiative and supporting groups like the Saturday Mothers. Today, this voice of justice is being silenced, but her example remains a beacon of hope and resistance. Let’s not allow injustice to prevail: share her story and demand her immediate release.
