Artist Ai Weiwei on Freedom, Fatherhood and His New Graphic Memoir “Zodiac” | Amanpour and Company

Exiled Chinese dissident and renowned artist Ai Weiwei is known for challenging authoritarian politics in his work. He was detained in China for 81 days on a charge of “state subversion” back in 2011. This failed to discourage the artist in his fight for intellectual freedom, a pursuit passed down to him by his late father, a celebrated poet. Now Ai Weiwei is exploring that relationship, and his own life story, in his new graphic memoir “Zodiac.” The author tells Hari Sreenivasan how his memories connect to stories of Chinese astrological signs.
