Yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure and honor of visiting the offices of Front Line Defenders in Blackrock, a charming seaside suburb near Dublin. It was a true pleasure to meet Conor Fortune, Sabrina Tolve Lucente, and Aisha Hamdulay.
It’s always inspiring and motivating to meet people working on the front lines of human rights, and I’m sure a great collaboration will emerge… All of this was made possible thanks to the dedication of Viviana Fiorentini

Front Line Defenders is an international human rights organization founded in 2001 with the goal of protecting and supporting human rights defenders who find themselves in situations of risk. The organization provides direct, rapid, and flexible support to those in danger, offering financial assistance for security, legal support, training, physical protection, and, in extreme cases, evacuation. Additionally, Front Line Defenders works to raise international awareness of the conditions faced by human rights defenders, putting pressure on governments and institutions to ensure their protection. Founded by
Mary Lawlor UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights Defenders and former director of the Irish section Amnesty Ireland of Amnesty International, with a $3 million donation from businessman and philanthropist Denis O’Brien, Front Line Defenders is particularly known for its pragmatic and timely approach to addressing the immediate needs of human rights defenders. The organization holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and has Observer Status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights. In 2006, Front Line Defenders opened an office for relations with the European Union in Brussels.
