From Gaza to the Ivy League

Omar Rashid ’29 makes the incredible journey from a war zone
by Margot Ruland with Dartmouth Magazine

I had the pleasure of creating this illustration for the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, published by Dartmouth College in Hanover, United States. The drawing is a portrait of Omar Rashid, who left Nuseirat, in the Gaza Strip, to pursue his studies in New England. His journey speaks of courage, hospitality, and the transformative power of education: a story of opportunity that challenges fear-based and exclusionary narratives, breaking free from the cage of Trumpian propaganda and reclaiming a more generous, open, and humane image of the United States.
