Visual journalism, human rights, and collective responsibility through art at the Peace Justice Conference in Denmark
At the heart of Denmark’s western coast, at the Tvind International School Centre in Ulfborg, the Peace Justice Conference took place—an international gathering dedicated to peace, justice, human rights, and collective action. The conference is part of the educational path of DNS – The Necessary Teacher Training, a school that for decades has promoted critical, international education grounded in social responsibility.
Within this context, Gianluca Costantini, Italian artist and activist, presented an exhibition of drawings dedicated to Palestine—a body of work that brings together graphic art, visual journalism, and civic engagement. The works on display emerge from years of involvement with human rights issues and, through faces, gestures, and testimonies, convey the concrete consequences of occupation, violence, and the denial of fundamental rights experienced by the Palestinian people.
Organized by DNS students and teachers, the conference is conceived as a collective experience that weaves together education, activism, and creativity. Workshops, debates, performances, and exhibitions coexist to foster a worldview rooted in social justice and global responsibility. In this framework, Costantini’s work naturally resonates with the values of the school and with the educational approach of The Necessary Teacher Training, which recognizes culture and art as essential tools for transformation.
The presence of this exhibition in Ulfborg reaffirms the role of art as a language capable of crossing borders, generating empathy, and challenging consciences. Gianluca Costantini’s drawings on Palestine do not offer easy answers, but instead raise necessary questions, inviting viewers to take a position and to recognize, in the defense of human rights, a shared responsibility.
