A tribute to the Palestinian reporters who risk—and often lose—their lives to show the world the truth from Gaza

The weekly supplement of the newspaper El País features on its cover one of my drawings dedicated to the Palestinian journalists killed in the Gaza Strip. The lead article, “Target: Kill the Journalist” (Beatriz Lecumberri), also includes other portraits of reporters that I have created over the past few years.
The Israeli army has killed two hundred informants in Gaza over the past two years, while Netanyahu’s government prohibits the entry of international press into the Strip. This is an unprecedented situation in armed conflicts. Palestinian reporters are the eyes and ears of the world, the only witnesses documenting a massacre that has already caused more than 65,000 deaths.
In addition to the daily difficulties that journalists in Gaza face in order to report, there is the constant fear of being a military target. We spoke with reporters who resist and risk their lives every day, and with organizations that defend their vital work and denounce the killings. This is how the press lives and dies in Gaza.
