Palestine: A Plaque for Memory

Cavriago and a gesture for peace and dignity

In Cavriago, on 16 May, a simple but deeply meaningful ceremony took place in the courtyard of the Centro Culturale Multisala Multiplo Cavriago.

Together with Deputy Mayor Martina Zecchetti, a plaque dedicated to Palestinian victims was unveiled—an act intended as a public gesture of remembrance and solidarity.

The initiative was born from a shared desire to express closeness to the Palestinian people, and to all organisations and individuals who continue, often in difficult and dangerous conditions, to work for peace, justice, and the protection of human rights.

More than a commemorative sign, the plaque stands as a symbolic presence in a public space: a reminder that civilian lives lost in conflict must not disappear from collective memory, and that every life carries the same inherent value, regardless of geography or political context.

At the same time, the gesture invites reflection on the broader legal and political framework surrounding the ongoing conflict, including the expansion of the death penalty for alleged acts of terrorism in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. It raises urgent questions about justice, proportionality, and the limits of punishment in situations of prolonged violence.

Above all, the plaque affirms a simple but essential principle: the universality of human dignity, the sanctity of life, and the fundamental right to justice for all people.
